Advantages of Using Ascor L 500 Brand of Ascorbic Acid for Injection

As you know, we, at the McGuff Company, are pioneers in megadose Vitamin C therapy by injection. We believe it is important to call to your attention significant differences between our high potency Vitamin C Injection as compared to products offered by other vendors.

Our products, which are labeled as Ascorbic Acid for Injection U.S.P., fully conform to the U.S.P. XXV monograph for Ascorbic Acid Injection. They are made solely from Ascorbic Acid and not with Sodium Ascorbate expressed as an Ascorbic Acid equivalent, as found with several competing products.

Some competing Ascorbic Acid No Preservative Injections contain large amounts (10mg per mL) of Monothioglycerol (a viscous fluid with a slight sulfide odor) as a stabilizer to inhibit interaction between the Ascorbic Acid and Oxygen. We have eliminated Monothioglycerol from our Ascorbic Acid No Preservative Injection, and have replaced it with a trace amount (0.025%) of Edetate Disodium (EDTA.)

There are several distinct advantages gained by using EDTA
as a replacement for Monothioglycerol:

First
Ascorbic Acid Injection with E.D.T.A. has been indicated by the American College of Advancement in Medicine as "better tolerated" by patients than Ascorbic Acid with Monothioglycerol.

Second
McGuff Company Ascorbic Acid with E.D.T.A. has a lower osmotic pressure when compared to Ascorbic Acid with Monothioglycerol. This allows for greater flexibility in determining isotonic protocols. You may no longer have to omit or reduce other desirable admixtures.

Third
Ascorbic Acid with E.D.T.A. is less viscous and is easier to withdraw and administer. Also, more accuracy is available in withdrawing the product due to reduced bubble effect.

Fourth
E.D.T.A. acts as an adjuvant to Ascorbic Acid by binding heavy metals which may interfere with Ascorbic Acid’s pharmacological effect.

Fifth
No Extra or unnecessary stabilizers, such as Monothioglycerol, are administered to the patient which reduces the patient’s risk of allergic reaction.
