EMERGENCY OVERVIEW

Remove any contamination from the skin, eyes, or clothing.

POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS

Inhalation:

Not expected to be a health hazard via inhalation.

Ingestion:

Not expected to produce any acute adverse health effects. Large doses may cause gastrointestinal upset.

Skin Contact:

Not expected to produce any acute adverse health effects.

Eye Contact:

No adverse effect expected, but may cause mechanical irritation.

Chronic Exposure:

Not expected to be a chronic health hazard.

SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation:

Not expected to require first aid measures.

Ingestion:

If large amounts are swallowed, give water to drink and seek medical attention.

Skin Exposure:

Wash exposed areas with soap and water. Get medical advice if irritation develops.

Eye Exposure:

In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical advice if irritation develops.

Fire: Not considered to be a fire hazard.

Explosion: Not considered to be an explosion hazard.

Fire Extinguishing Media: Use any means suitable for extinguishing surrounding fire.

Special Instructions: In the event of a fire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode.

 

SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Collect all spills and dispose of as non-hazardous waste. All cleanup operations should be performed according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) established for your facility and applicable local, state or federal regulations.

Store at 2oC to 8oC. Pressure may develop within the vial upon long storage. Precautions should be taken when product is being withdrawn from vial.  Internal pressure may expel plunger from  syringes and other devices upon insertion into the stoppered vial. Storage and disposal of  product should be controlled in a manner which is in compliance with the appropriate regulations of the federal or state government agencies.

Appearance: Clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

Odor: Odorless.  May have a slight salt odor.

Solubility: Soluble in water.

Stability: In the dry state, it is reasonably stable in air, but in solution it rapidly oxidizes.

Hazardous Decomposition Products: When heated to decomposition, ascorbic acid emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.

Hazardous Polymerization: Should not occur.

Incompatibilities: No information found.
