Use Light Resistant IV Tubing and IV Bag Covers To Protect Your Drugs and Patients

Are you using any injectable drug that is provided in an amber vial? If so, you should consider Light-Safe® sets! Amber vials are used by drug manufacturers to protect their drug active ingredients from light… shouldn’t you do the same?

The McGuff Company (McGuff) is proud to carry the Light-Safe® brand of intravenous administration and extension sets. Additionally, McGuff carries amber IV cover bags that may be placed over the infusion bottle or bag. Used in combination these products help reduce potentially harmful light effects in IV drug delivery.

Exclusive amber-colored intravenous administration sets, extension sets and cover bags are designed to protect certain drugs from light exposure, which can cause reduction in potency, discoloration and complete degradation or the active drug, causing the drug to be potentially dangerous and unsafe to use.

Light-Safe® administration sets and extension sets are used with confidence in medical and patient care facilities around the world. Product quality is a result of decades of medical research, pharmaceutical development and clinical experience.

Light-Safe® tubing includes the following important features:

  • Amber tubing to protect certain fluids from direct light exposure
  • Significantly reduces production of nutrient oxidants and oxidizing agents
  • Superior testing results for degradation using IV solutions with Vitamins, Multi-Vitamins, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), chemotherapy and other related medications
  • DEHP-free tubing
  • PVC free fluid path
  • Latex free
  • Manufactured to ISO standards

Light-Safe® tubing for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) in the infant and neonate wards

Amber-colored Light-Safe® tubing is used in a select group of its neonate and pediatric IV administration sets and extension sets to protect fluids from direct light sources.

The nutritional requirements of a typical neonatal infant are approximately 200 times his/her stomach capacity. Therefore, supplemental IV feedings with lipids and TPN are essential. Light exposure can produce high levels of harmful hydrogen peroxide, oxidants and oxidizing agents that can dangerously stress the compromised antioxidant systems of especially preterm infants and seriously ill neonates.

Light-Safe® tubing has been clinically tested and proven to reduce hydrogen peroxide generation in neonatal patients receiving lipids and TPN as well as proven to reduce photo-degradation of light sensitive infusible products such as Vitamin A, Amphotericin B, Nitroprusside, Adriamycian, Doxorubicin, Dacarbazine and Furosemide.

Options available for administration, extension, bifurcated and trifurcated
