McGuff Attains VAWD Certification

November 08, 2007

Today’s Drug Counterfeiters are Becoming More Sophisticated

In response to this threat, the Food and Drug Administration supports the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) in creation of the Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors® (VAWD®) program. The VAWD accreditation program is the only one of its kind offering assurances in maintaining the integrity of the US drug distribution system.

On July 2, 2007 the McGuff Company joined the ranks of the elite drug wholesale companies in the United States that have been:

  • Independently audited to verify compliance with state and federal laws
  • Independently reviewed and audited to meet VAWD requirements in seven key areas: licensure; facility; personnel; record keeping; authentication and verification; returned, damaged, and outdated drugs; and policies and procedures
  • Determined to maintain best practices for safely distributing prescription drugs from manufacturer to practitioner or health care facility
  • Determined to maintain best business and distribution practices for drug and device security

"The VAWD accreditation allows our customers to take comfort that the drugs and medical devices provided by the McGuff Company are safe from counterfeiters and illegal diversion… Our quality systems have met the criteria requirements of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy®, the Food and Drug Administration and the California State Board of Pharmacy" proclaimed Ronald M. McGuff, President McGuff Company, Inc. during the 2007 annual stakeholder meeting.
