I.V. Solution Allocation Explained
As a responsible medical supplier, we believe in transparency in order to keep our customers and potential customers at the forefront of the issues that may affect your day to day operations.
As most of you are probably aware, there is a shortage of IV solutions in the United States that is being tracked on the FDA Drug Shortage list. The three manufacturers in the United States (Baxter, Hospira, and B.Braun) state that they are unable to keep up with the demand in the US market. This ongoing shortage continues to affect the entire US market including everyone from hospitals, wholesalers, physician practices and, most importantly, patients.
Currently, McGuff Company Inc. receives at best around 75% of what our average order was in 2010. We receive our shipments from the manufacturers monthly and then are forced to allocate to our customers as demand exceeds supply. As far as we can tell, every distributor in the country is doing the same. To be as fair as possible, we have created an allocation committee to determine how our IV solutions are distributed to customers.
The McGuff allocation committee reviews each purchase request independently. Some of the factors that we look at are the following:
- Current Stock of I.V. solutions at McGuff
- Purchase history at McGuff Family of Companies to support the use of I.V. solutions
As a Medical Products Supplier, we would love nothing more than to supply you with as many I.V. bags as you need. Given the current market constraints we are unfortunately, for the time being, unable to do so. Our promise to you is that we at McGuff Company Inc. are working as diligently as possible with the manufacturers to help relieve some of the allocation constraints whenever possible.
For your reference, below are a few I.V. Solutions that are less strictly allocated. If the following I.V. solutions work with your protocols, we would recommend you purchase the following:
|McGuff Item #||I.V. Solution||Size|
|002601||0.9% Sodium Chloride||250 mL|
|002777||Sterile Water||1,000 mL|
|001205||0.9 Sodium Chloride PAB||100/150 mL|
Once again we apologize for the inconvenience of the allocation process and appreciate your patience working through it. We are doing our best to ensure a supply of I.V. solutions to all of our customers. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact us.
